FAQs and
Useful Links to help you plan
What is photojournalistic
style?
A photojournalist
documents an event - in this case your wedding - in an unobtrusive way
as the story unfolds. We don’t feel we have the right to control
your wedding or instruct you to perform for the camera. We are happy
to help you when you ask, but we feel it’s your day.
Do you take formal
portraits?
Yes, group portraits of
your families and the wedding party are included with your wedding
day photography. We also create artistic portraits of the newlyweds
during a “time alone” session. It gives the couple a chance to get
away from the hustle and bustle and share their joy.
Can we go to a park or
somewhere outdoors for portraits after the ceremony?
We are happy to go to
other locations that offer picturesque backgrounds or have special
meaning to the couple. Naturally, we are at the mercy of the weather
and travel time needs to be factored in to the timeline for your
day.
Who will be our
photographer?
Street Light Photography
is a privately owned collaboration of photographers Ralph Wilson and
Stephanie Carey. We photograph all our weddings ourselves. We are
the first people you have contact with when you inquire about our
services and we are the photographers who will arrive on your
wedding day.
What is the advantage of
two photographers?
The benefits of two
photographers are numerous. We can literally be two places at once.
That allows you to have preparation photographs taken with the bride
at the same time a photographer is with the groom. During the
ceremony we are able to provide multiple angles while reducing
distractions of the photographers’ movements. During the portrait
session one photographer can concentrate on the technical issues for
creating the proper exposures while the other can oversee the finer
details of the pose. Overall you have the assurance of more images
being taken during the key moments of the day. Logistically it is a
great benefit to have the extra help moving equipment from one
location to another without delaying the day's events.
What kind of cameras do
you use?
We use professional
quality Nikon digital SLRs with Nikon lenses and dedicated Nikon
flash units. The equipment is all manufactured to electronically
communicate exposure and focus information to each component of the
system.
Do you have backup
equipment?
Absolutely - Each
photographer carries at least two camera bodies and a collection of
lenses to cover various distances from wide angle to telephoto. Each
photographer also carries back-up flash units.
How long will it take to
see our wedding photographs?
Your wedding gallery
will be posted online in seven to 14 days. We will capture well over
1,000 images from your wedding. It's our job to
recognize the best images and edit out the ”blinks” or awkward
expressions. We want
to get your images to you as quickly as possible without compromising
the quality of our work. We also take time to identify the “cream of
the crop” images that truly define your wedding and give them
special attention to create fine pieces of art.
How many photographs will
I get?
There is no set number
of images that we apply to every wedding. Some weddings we
photograph are intimate family affairs with a private meal
afterwards. Others are gala events with hundreds of guests and a
party to end all. Many fall somewhere in between. On average, the
smaller, more private celebrations receive 300 or so images. Full-day coverage with two photographers often generates 500 to 700 final
images.
Do you crop and color
correct our proofs?
Yes, every image in your gallery has been given our personal attention. They
are cropped to focus on the center of attention while including
enough of the scene to put it in context. We also make simple color,
brightness and contrast corrections for Internet viewing. Some
distractions in the backgrounds or other corrections are made when
the images are ordered for printing or included in albums.
